The Artist @ Work

Inspired by the Eastern White Pines on the shores of Georgian Bay

Rick began his stained glass experience 32 years ago. He took a clinic and found enjoyment working with glass. In 1978 Rick was asked to be a guest artist for Simcoe County Harvest Tour.

Producing sufficient stock for the show was a new experience and was the start of doing stained glass at a commercial level. Balancing this with a full-time job as well as family and volunteer work limited the number of shows Rick could attend for quite a few years.

Over the years Rick did a variety of designs; Christmas, classic church windows, and nature scenes. Living and boating in the Simcoe/ Georgian Bay area combined with a great respect for Canada's Group of Seven, a new focus of stained glass design began. More and more of his panels reflected the rugged and unique nature of the Georgian Bay Area.

Fifteen years ago Rick started to work with the design and structure of a free standing windswept White Pine in natural granite rock. After many disappointments with connection and strength he finally created a unique piece that captured the feel of the White Pine.

The last number of years has seen Rick's art develop and recognition of his unique style. The projects have become larger and more detailed and his greatest enjoyment is doing custom pieces. Many of these commissioned art glass works are the re-creation of specific views of the Bay area. Rick's art has reached to far corners of the World; China, Japan, Argentina, Europe as well as coast to coast in North America and is of great satisfaction to him.
